WINTER HAVEN - Florida's oldest theme park quietly closed Wednesday, after struggling to stay open for the past several years. An attorney for owners Land South Adventures says the owners tried everything to keep the park running since buying it in 2007.
"They've tried a lot of different things and I'm convinced they've given it all they have," said Attorney Rick Dantzler.
Everything proved not enough.
A statement on Cypress Garden's website says the park is closed, effective immediately, and 160 workers were told today was their last day on the job.
"During the last two years, Land South Adventures, LLC, has explored numerous management frameworks and exhausted every possible approach to keep the park running in its traditional form," the statement says.
The statement says the owners are in the process of negotiating with several potential purchasers for all or part of the property.
